The 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is the twelfth Racecar Euro Series season, and the eighth under the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series branding. Loris Hezemans and Lasse Sorensen entered the season as the defending champion in the EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 category respectively, although Sorensen will not defend his title as he moved up to the EuroNASCAR PRO class in 2020. Hendriks Motorsport entered the season as the defending team’s champion.

After a demanding and spectacular four-way battle for EuroNASCAR PRO Round 1 victory, reigning NWES champion Loris Hezemans rose to the top of the podium in Vallelunga, Italy. Driving his Ford Mustang Hendriks Motorsport # 50, the Dutchman beat Alon Day and Gianmarco Ercoli at the finish line after race leader Jacques Villeneuve had to park his Feed Vict Racing # 5 car due to a Technical problem. It would have been the first NWES victory for the 1997 Formula 1 world champion. Just two laps later, the winner was Hezemans, who defended the attacks by Day and Ercoli after the Canadian’s retirement.

“I think everybody enjoyed that race, but for me it was one of the tougher races to be honest,” said Hezemans, who scored his sixth career win. “We were really struggling with setup issues, but maybe it’s down to me. The car felt very loose and I think we will work a little bit on it before Round 2. I’m really happy but I have to see what happened to Jacques because this race was his to win. I don’t think I had the pace to overtake him, so let’s try to improve in Round 2 and come back stronger.”
