Race 15 Recap

It was a hectic start to the 250km race and opening laps, which saw positions swap amongst the field. Both driving lost track position in the opening lap De Pasquale dropping to P7 and Davison P9.

But on lap 2, Davison claimed back his starting spot back up when he passed Slade. Davison stayed close to De Pasquale, just 0.8 seconds behind, but had Slade hunting him down.

On lap 18, Brown made a mistake, which opened the door for both Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustangs to get past. But Brown claimed back his spot from Davison and also made way for Slade to pass. Meanwhile, De Pasquale powered ahead, and on lap 22 passed Waters and moved into P5.

Davison made his first compulsory stop for tyre and fuel on lap 24 and rejoined behind J. Kostecki.
De Pasquale was on a different race strategy and didn’t make his first stop until lap 31. He dropped back into the race in front of Le Brocq but on cold tyres has to let him past.

With the first round of pit stops done, Davison was up to P3 and De Pasquale P4. At the halfway point of the race, their positions were unchanged. De Pasquale was just 1 second behind his teammate – the strategies looked to have paid off.

Davison made his second stop on lap 56. De Pasquale didn’t stop until lap 62 and rejoined the race still ahead of Davison. They were unchallenged for the remainder of the race. De Pasquale finished on the podium in P3 for a second day in a row. Davison finished just one place behind in P4.

Davison moves up to 3rd in the Driver’s Championship standings, while De Pasquale is 6th. The Shell V-Power Racing Team remains in 2nd in the Team’s Championship.

DE PASQUALE QUOTE

“I think our car was a little bit better, and I think two third places it was as good as we were going to get.”

“Our middle stint in fresh air was quite good, but we were just sort of in third with a gap behind and a gap in front. We were just cruising around, but I think we’ve got good direction for 18th July. We’ll have a week to think about it and hopefully come back stronger.”

DAVISON QUOTE

“I had a good recovery, and I’m glad to get out of here with a heap of points. It’s been a bit of a difficult weekend searching for balance in the car, and we’ve learnt a lot of important stuff for the 18th July.”

“We went aggressive on strategy, and it was a very tricky one to make work. But I put absolutely everything into the second stint and I was able to drive a really consistent, fast stint.”

“I knew the second stint was crucial, and it was harder being on older tyres than everyone around me. But we got track position and I was able to use the clean air well. I grabbed fourth which was really good all things considered.”

“We’ve got a lot to look at now and a lot to tidy up for the next race.”
