Victor Martins (Art Grand Prix) initially displaced from the top of the general classification at Magny Cours, silenced his critics by winning the race two at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, held in September 2020. Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours is a motor racing circuit located in central France, near the towns of Magny-Cours and Nevers, some 250 km (160 miles) from Paris and 240 km (150 miles) from Lyon.
Victor Martins was the fastest to start, dominating the first session in 1’55”098. Outpaced by his teammate Gregoire Saucy in a second session concluded in the rain, the Frenchman then replied in the following two contested on a wet track.
The following day, leader of the general classification, Caio Collet then took the advantage in 1’54”926 despite the late improvements of Victor Martins and David Vidales (JD Motorsport). Victor Martins responded however in the final session to set the fastest time in practice in 1’54”921 ahead of David Vidales and Caio Collet.
After setting the fastest time in five of the six practice sessions, ART Grand Prix continued its momentum during qualifying. While the start of the session was dominated by Bhaitech Racing’s Formula Renault FR-19 with Vicky Piria and Laszlo Toth, Gregoire Saucy took the lead nine minutes from the checkered flag before being dislodged by Victor Martins.
Improving three times, the Frenchman took pole position in 1’54”808 ahead of Caio Collet. The Renault Sport Academy member was the only one to break the hegemony of ART Grand Prix, whose two other drivers Gregoire Saucy and rookie Paul Aron monopolized the second row ahead of William Alatalo (JD Motorsport) and Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech Racing). David Vidales (JD Motorsport), Franco Colapinto (MP Motorsport), Petr Ptacek (R-ace GP) and Alex Quinn (Arden Motorsport) completed the top ten in that order.
Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix): “It was very close with Caio, but he had already shown yesterday that he had the speed to take the victory. I knew that I had it too and that all I had to do was to get a good start. The two safety car periods made things tougher, but I focused on my driving and tried to be as consistent as possible. We have won three times in four races after the summer break and this shows that we can now be strong everywhere.”
