The race for a greener planet begins as Extreme E gears up to host the first off road racing series featuring Odyssey 21, a stunning electric SUV. The radical series will host five races across extremely remote parts and challenging environments of the world. Odyssey 21 is the official car of the series and is expected to outpace the power and torque of the world rally cars. The car is designed to drive through difficult terrain and also shatter the misguided notion about electric cars being weaker and lesser.

The Odyssey 21 is developed by Spark Racing Technology using a niobium-reinforced steel alloy tubular frame, with a raised suspension and huge off-road wheels with tyres from Continental. The batteries are powered by Williams Advanced Engineering generating 550 horsepower and adept to move the 1,650 kg all-electric SUV to 62 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds at gradients of up to 130%. The top speed of the SUV is 124mph. And a Ride height of 450mm with Wheelbase of 3,001mm.

The Odyssey 21’s designer Théophile Gouzin said “Our challenge was to build a car that could face all the variations in surface and terrain that will be thrown its way, which will include gravel, rock, mud, ice, snow, water and sand, too. Straight out-of-the-box in Season 1, the ODYSSEY 21 and its performance is going to be very impressive, exceeding the power and torque of World Rally Championship and rally raid cars. The numbers are mind-blowing, really.” After successful testing, 12 cars would be delivered for the first race of the series, by early 2021.
